The Hare Krishna Explosion
The birth of the Krishna consciousness movement in the US.
The Hare Krishna Explosion by Hayagriva dasa describes in vivid detail the period between 1966 and 1969 when Srila Prabhupada single-handedly established the Hare Krishna Movement in the United States. Hayagriva was one of the first disciples of Srila Prabhupada and as he was an English professor at a university Prabhupada immediately engaged him in editing his transcendental books.
This is by far one of the best accounts of the early pastimes of Srila Prabhupada in the USA and it truly transports the reader back to those exciting days when the Hare Krishna Movement was actually transforming the world. It is a truly wonderful book.

The first draft of The Hare Krishna Explosion was written in July 1969 just after Srila Prabhupada’s first visit to New Vrindavan. At that time Hayagriva realized that the details of the beginnings of the Krishna Consciousness Movement had best be recorded when the events were still fresh. Working from notebooks, diaries and memories he compiled the first edition in a month. Then the manuscript remained packed away until Srila Prabhupada left the mortal world in 1977.
Hayagriva finally published the book in 1986 through New Vrindavan’s Palace Press and has been out of print for nearly 15 years now. Fortunately it is now back in print and thus we are happy to present this to our dear customers, who have never had the chance to get such a first hand experience of the early years of Krishna Consciousness in the West.
