Description
“Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura needs no introduction among the followers of Lord Caitanya, nor does his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita called Sarartha-varsini-tika. The title literally means “the commentary which showers the essential meaning”. His commentary explains the Gita from the perspective of pure bhakti defined by Sri Rupa Gosvami as uttama bhakti, emphasizing the sweetness and mercy of Krsna as svayam bhagavan above all else, and expounding the philosophy of acintya bhedabheda of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
Though familiar with the commentaries of Ramanujacarya, Sridhara Svami, and Madhusudana Sarasvati, he presents an original and brilliant exposition on pure bhakti which is unique among the Gita commentaries for its simplicity and sweetness.
The edition contains the Sanskrit Davanagari verses, Roman transliteration, English translation and the purports by Visvanatha Cakravarti. Many pages contain footnotes.
